Cursory: Barrister Aisha Maikudi, Nigeria’s youngest professor, has been appointed the University of Abuja’s deputy vice chancellor for academic affairs. At the 78th Senate meeting, which took place on March 22, it was decided to appoint the 40-year-old law professor. She was said to have been the first female law professor from Nigeria’s northwest.

Aisha Maikudi, a 40-year-old professor of law, has been appointed the University of Abuja’s deputy vice chancellor of academics. On Monday, May 8, a message posted on the university’s official Facebook page announced Maikudi’s appointment.

According to the circular, her appointment was authorized by the university’s governing council during the 78th senate meeting on March 22 in accordance with the University of Abuja Act.

The statement reads:

“The appointment which took effect from May 5, 2023, was for a period of two years in the first instance.”

Maikudi, a Nigerian woman who was born on January 31, 1983, is the country’s first female law professor. First earning a degree from the University of Reading in 2004, Maikudi later earned a second degree (Master of Law) from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2005.

She earned her doctorate in international law from the University of Abuja in 2015. She lectured there from 2008 to 2022, when she was promoted to professor.

She was the first female deputy dean of the faculty of law, according to the university’s announcement, which was made public in 2018.

In 2019, she also took the helm as the University of Abuja International Center’s inaugural director. Furthermore, she is Nigeria’s youngest law professor.
