Cursory: Aaliyah Duah, a recent graduate of Virginia State University, has been named HBCU Entrepreneur of the Year for her efforts in promoting financial literacy and entrepreneurship in the Black community. She founded Financial Revolution, a social media platform that educates her peers on financial literacy and entrepreneurship and published a financial book.
Aaliyah Duah, a recent graduate of Virginia State University, has been honored with the title of HBCU Entrepreneur of the Year for her exceptional contributions to promoting financial literacy and entrepreneurship within the Black community.
Despite her young age of 20, Aaliyah has already achieved remarkable success by establishing Financial Revolutionn, a social media platform that effectively educates her peers on financial literacy and entrepreneurship through entertaining and relatable content.
Having grown up in Brooklyn, New York City, Aaliyah witnessed the detrimental effects of poor financial decisions on individuals and communities firsthand.
However, it was during the pandemic that she experienced a transformative realization, recognizing the importance of prioritizing essential values over materialistic possessions.
Since that enlightening moment, Aaliyah has been dedicated to spearheading a financial revolution within the Black community, tirelessly working towards her goal.
During her sophomore year in college, she published her debut book, The Blueprint for Investing, a comprehensive guide that offers readers step-by-step instructions on investing in the stock market.
Surpassing expectations, she sold over 100 copies within just two weeks. Aaliyah also created a financial literacy game called “Rap Cards,” which cleverly employs rap lyrics to educate young individuals on money management.
Additionally, she developed a financial planner named “The Billion Dollar Plan,” assisting individuals in mapping out their financial goals. Beyond her entrepreneurial endeavors, Aaliyah demonstrates a deep commitment to community service.
As the Vice President of the Student Government Association at VSU, she advocated for an annual funded trip to Ghana, West Africa, enabling students and faculty to explore their African heritage. Aaliyah has also organized various back-to-school drives, free events, and webinars.
Recognizing her remarkable work, McDonald’s has selected Aaliyah as one of the 2023 Black & Positively Golden Change Leaders. As a change leader, she receives a $20,000 grant to further her business and a media campaign to promote her platform.
Aaliyah intends to utilize these resources to continue developing creative and enjoyable avenues for people of color of all ages to attain financial literacy, including through music, films, courses, books, podcasts, and more.
