Cursory: Owuda Winifred, a 16-year-old student, won the Book O’clock essay competition in Sokoto, Nigeria, with her brilliant essay. Outperforming 42 other contestants, Winifred received a cash prize and expressed gratitude for the opportunity and the valuable experience gained from the competition.

Owuda Winifred, a remarkable 16-year-old student from Holy Family School in Sokoto, Nigeria, stood out among 42 contestants and emerged as the winner of the Book O’clock essay competition titled “If the President Could Read Me.”

The competition, organized by Book O’clock, a literary organization, aimed to commemorate its third anniversary and provided a platform for students to express their views on the issues they believe the new President of Nigeria should prioritize, particularly those concerning the welfare of the Nigerian child. The essay contest received 42 entries from 15 schools in Sokoto, Nigeria.

During the contest, a panel composed of past winners of the Nigeria Prize for Teens Literature reviewed and evaluated the entries based on their content, expression, organization, and mechanical accuracy.

From the initial 42 entries, six finalists were selected, and among them, Winnifred emerged as the overall winner, receiving a prize of 50,000 naira.

Overjoyed with her victory, Winifred expressed her excitement and described the competition as an incredible experience that has equipped her for future competitions.

“Being the winner of the Book O’clock Anniversary Prize was exciting and remarkable. The competition was an amazing experience. I want to thank everyone who made it a success,” she said.
