Female Corper Builds Classroom for Pupils Who Learn Under Trees

CURSORY: Corp member builds a block of two classrooms for a primary school, located in Bauchi

Rahila Garba, a serving corps member, has built a block of two classrooms at Gudum Hausawa Primary School, which is located in of Bauchi state, coming to the community’s rescue and making the teachers and students happy.

According to Garba, the reason she chose to take on the project was that students were sitting on bare grasses and they were learning under trees. She also said that she started the idea because she was driven by compassion to improve the students’ learning environment.

With 5,000 residents, Kpong is a secluded town whose residents have endured years of poor living conditions, including drinking water from a river that has been polluted with faces and other waste products.

Garba said that she decided to build the classrooms in response to the appalling conditions she observed at the school when she was sent there as her primary place of assignment.

In her words: “At the time I was posted here for my primary assignment, I discovered the need for more classrooms and the learning environment was not conducive for the pupils and the management of the school, even the structures were dilapidated and needed urgent renovation as most students received lectures under the trees.

“It was this horrible experience that gave birth to the idea for the construction of additional classrooms. Though at first, it was not an easy one to bring this idea to life considering my financial capability, but I was determined and so passionate to see that this project is put to life”.

The corps member urged wealthy people and the state government to contribute to the N3.5 million cost of chairs and other furniture for the school. According to the Guardian.
