Augustine University Matriculates 291 Students for 2023/2024 Academic Session

Augustine University celebrated a significant milestone as 291 students were formally matriculated into the Institution for the 2023/2024 Academic Session.

The 9th Matriculation Ceremony which was held on Thursday, 8th February, 2024 was graced by faculty, guardians, family and guests.

Speaking at the Ceremony held at the Convocation Hall, the Matriculation Lecturer, Professor Anthony Akinwale emphasized the importance of identifying one’s objectives in life and differentiating between morally just and unjust means.

He said the purpose of education, is not only to acquire knowledge but also to cultivate morals.
Professor Akinwale while introducing the motto of Augustine University, “pro scientia et moribus,” which means for knowledge and morals said it addresses the misconception that education is a scam and highlighting the detrimental effects of being distracted from education.

Profesor Akinwale who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Institution advised students to appreciate the importance of education and identify their goals in life to overcome distractions.

The Reverend Father also corrected a notion that the richest people in the world today are not educated.

According to him, using the example of wealthy individuals without formal education, it emphasizes that they still rely on educated individuals to manage their businesses.

Professor Akinwale therefore advised the matriculating students to identify their life goal and focus on attaining it while considering the good of society. He emphasized the importance of discipline in managing distractions, both internal (such as pleasure-seeking) and external (such as economic or family issues).

Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Christopher Odetunde acknowledged the significance of the matriculating ceremony as the official entry of students into the institution.

He described Augustine University as a young institution that upholds the traditions of Catholic higher education saying the university is focused on academic excellence, moral grounding, personal growth, and global perspective.

The four faculties offer diverse programs, incorporating cutting-edge technology and modern pedagogical methods”, Professor Odetunde added.

The VC emphasized the importance of academic integrity, personal growth beyond academics, and lifelong learning while he expressed gratitude to various stakeholders, including the University’s Visioner, Proprietor, and Board of Trustees, Governing Council, and Chancellor.
