The government of Ogun State, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, has initiated the disbursement of a cash award of N10,000 to 100,000 financially disadvantaged primary and secondary school students in the state. This award is being distributed to students attending over 2,000 public schools across the four divisions of the Gateway state. The announcement was made via a statement posted on the state’s official X handle (previously known as Twitter) @OGSG_Official on Wednesday, March 13.

Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, the commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, highlighted that the cash award is part of Governor Abiodun’s strategy to alleviate the economic hardship faced by parents in the country.

Regarding the selection process for the beneficiaries, Arigbabu explained that teachers and principals were tasked with identifying the financially disadvantaged students as they are in direct contact with them.

He emphasized that the governor aims to provide relief to the people of the state by employing various approaches, including leveraging the health and education sectors to reach the populace.

In his words:

“In view of the economic realities in the country, the governor decided to provide succour to the people of the state using multiplicity approaches to achieve this.

“He believes that another strategy that could be used which has never been used by any government before is the health and education sectors to reach the populace. Through the education sector, you can truly reach out to those who need the palliative.

“We have over 2, 000 primary and secondary schools in all the four divisions of the state, and 100,000 learners in these schools would receive N10,00 each.”

Governor Abiodun, through his X handle, @dabiodunMFR, emphasized that the cash award aims to mitigate the impact of the prevailing economic challenges on the students’ education and their families.
