Federal University Gusau has disowned Bernard Odoh, the recently sacked Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK, refuting his claims of a professorship at the institution and labeling his documents as fraudulent and legally invalid.

The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has distanced itself from Bernard Odoh, the recently dismissed Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK). The university refuted Odoh’s claims of holding a professorship there, labeling his documents as fraudulent and legally invalid.
FUGUS management declared that Odoh, who was sacked three weeks after his appointment as UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, fabricated documents to bolster his academic profile. According to the FUGUS Registrar, Yakubu Anivbassa, Odoh’s claims of serving as a visiting professor at the institution in 2014 and being promoted to full professor in 2015 were false.
“The documents presented by Dr. Odoh are products of administrative fraud, orchestrated in collaboration with the former Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of the university,” Anivbassa stated. He added that the so-called certified true copies of Odoh’s records failed to meet the standards of the Evidence Act, 2011, making them legally invalid.
FUGUS noted that the alleged certification of Odoh’s documents by a former university official, Ibrahim Bawa Kaura, was void. Bawa, who left the university in 2018, lacked the authority to certify documents on behalf of FUGUS.
“The documents purportedly certified by Bawa on November 8, 2024, are illegal, null, and void,” Anivbassa emphasized.
Anivbassa further clarified that Odoh was never a staff member of FUGUS. “Dr. Odoh Bernard Ifeanyi has never been employed by this university, let alone confirmed as a professor,” he said, accusing Odoh of leveraging FUGUS’s name to secure his position at UNIZIK.
In response, Odoh criticized his removal, asserting that the Federal Ministry of Education lacked the authority to sack him. He maintains that his dismissal was unwarranted and continues to dispute the allegations against him.
This controversy adds to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Odoh’s tenure as UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor and the legitimacy of his academic credentials.
