A Nigerian man identified as Umar Ibrahim Umar, an ex-corps member who gained internet fame in 2022 for a viral photo of him commanding a parade during his NYSC orientation camp, has received a job offer and a scholarship.

Umar Ibrahim Umar, an ex-corps member who gained internet fame in 2022 for a viral photo of him commanding a parade during his NYSC orientation camp, has now received a job offer and a scholarship.

In 2022, Umar became an online sensation when an image of him passionately leading a parade went viral on social media. Contrary to rumors at the time, he clarified that he had not ventured into running a POS shop.

Recently, Umar disclosed to Legit.ng that he is now set to start a POS business. Despite facing initial financial hurdles, he successfully raised N352,000 through a crowdfunding campaign to support his entrepreneurial endeavor. The campaign quickly gained momentum, drawing attention from notable individuals, including former minister Isa Pantami.

“We launched the fundraising campaign on 24th June, posted the story on all social media handles… and just within 24 hours, 80K was raised. It went to a total of 200K+ on the second day. And by the third day, 352K was the sum…. that was the day Prof. Isa Ali Pantami quoted the campaign on X App, asking me to contact him privately,” Umar recounted to Legit.

Prof. Isa Pantami not only backed Umar’s business idea but also offered him a job and mentorship to further his education. Additionally, Umar received a fully funded scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies at any public university in Nigeria.

“Secondly, a fully funded postgraduate scholarship in any public university within Nigeria to advance my studies. And lastly, he connected me to the MD of Alliance Power Generation Company Ltd, where I will be trained on solar installations, maintenance, etc., which will help me pursue my dreams in renewable energy,” Umar added.
