Dr. Odunsi Temidayo, the best Graduating of the MB; BS 2024 class at the University of Ibadan, has credited her mother’s influence and her passion for helping humanity as key factors in her successful medical career.


Dr. Odunsi Temidayo, the top graduate of the MB; BS 2024 class from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (2022/2023 session), recently shared how her mother and her passion for humanity influenced her career path.
Dr. Temidayo did not start with the goal of being the best. Instead, she aimed to do her best and finish strong, following her mother’s advice to trust God and give her utmost effort. Her consistent focus on attending classes, taking notes, and diligent study habits paid off, as she frequently ranked at the top of her class throughout her seven-year course.
Despite her rigorous academic schedule, Dr. Temidayo was actively involved in various activities. She served as the Assistant Music Director of the UCH Sinfonia Choir and volunteered with organizations like Hamstrings and the Rotaract Club. Her participation in these activities, alongside her studies, demonstrated her ability to balance multiple commitments effectively.
Dr. Temidayo credited her success to her supportive family. Her mother, a medical doctor, provided academic guidance, while her father offered emotional and social support. This balanced encouragement helped her navigate the challenges of medical school.
From a young age, Dr. Temidayo wanted to help people, influenced by her mother’s dedication as a community physician. Her mother’s selfless service inspired her to pursue a career in medicine, aligning with her childhood goal of giving back to the community.
Throughout her studies, Dr. Temidayo faced numerous challenges, including power outages and difficult courses. She remained optimistic, learned to delegate tasks, and relied on effective communication to manage her responsibilities. Her perseverance and faith were key to overcoming obstacles.
One of Dr. Temidayo’s most cherished experiences during her clinical rotations was the strong friendships she formed. Cooking and spending time with friends helped her stay motivated and provided a necessary balance to her demanding academic life.
Dr. Temidayo’s fear of disappointing herself and her parents, coupled with her desire to reflect God’s goodness, kept her motivated. Her father’s encouragement and examples of other successful students also inspired her to strive for excellence.
Looking ahead, Dr. Temidayo plans to continue volunteering and hopes to establish foundations and organize conferences to inspire young people. She believes that improving Nigeria’s healthcare sector requires collective efforts from the government, healthcare professionals, and philanthropists.
Her advice to future medical students is to start early, be consistent, diligent, and face challenges head-on. She emphasizes the importance of trusting God and always doing one’s best.
To manage stress, Dr. Temidayo enjoyed watching movies, spending time with friends, and singing. These activities helped her relax and maintain a balanced life amidst her studies.
Dr. Temidayo’s journey is a testament to the power of hard work, faith, and support from loved ones. Her story is an inspiration to aspiring medical students and a reminder of the impact of dedication and perseverance.
