The Inspector-General of Police has deployed additional detectives and tactical resources to Benue State to assist in the rescue of twenty kidnapped medical students, urging public cooperation and caution against sharing sensitive information online.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reinforced efforts in Benue State by sending more detectives to assist in the rescue operation for the kidnapped medical students.
On Thursday evening, twenty medical students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos were abducted along the Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu road while traveling to Enugu. The students were en route to attend the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students’ annual convention.
In response, Egbetokun directed the deployment of tactical teams, including helicopters, drones, and tactical vehicles, on Saturday to expedite the rescue operation.
Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed in a statement on Sunday that additional detectives had arrived in Benue State, stressing the importance of public cooperation in the ongoing efforts.
Adejobi reiterated the IG’s dedication to ensuring the safe return of the kidnapped students. He also appealed for public understanding and support as more trained detectives joined the efforts in Benue.
Furthermore, Adejobi expressed appreciation for the citizens who have been providing confidential information to the police. He cautioned against sharing sensitive details on social media, as this could jeopardize the rescue mission.
“We thank those who have discreetly provided vital information and urge others to avoid discussing critical details online, as it may hinder ongoing operations. Please continue to share information with us in confidence,” he added.
