The NBTE has urged the NYSC to reverse its decision to reject science laboratory technology graduates lacking professional certification, emphasizing that the NBTE is the sole regulator of polytechnic education in Nigeria.

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has stepped in after the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) rejected science laboratory technology (SLT) graduates who lack professional certification.
NBTE urged NYSC to reverse its decision requiring SLT graduates to obtain a National Institute for Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) certificate before being eligible for national service.
NBTE Executive Secretary, Idris Bugaje, emphasized that NBTE is the sole regulator of polytechnic education in Nigeria and criticized NYSC for not consulting the board before implementing the new policy.
Bugaje reiterated that NBTE has never required registration with any professional body as a condition for polytechnic graduation and urged NYSC to allow graduates to seek professional registration after completing their service.
