JAMB Has No Role in HND Admissions — Spokesperson

JAMB has clarified that it is not responsible for HND admissions or any issues related to the NYSC scheme for HND graduates, as its mandate is limited to undergraduate and National Diploma admissions.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed allegations from some Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates that it is responsible for their inability to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

JAMB clarified that its mandate does not extend to HND admissions, as it is solely responsible for overseeing undergraduate admissions and National Diploma (ND) courses.

In a statement released on Monday, JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, referenced Section 5(2) of the Board’s establishing law, which clearly states that JAMB is not involved in examinations or selection processes for postgraduate courses or other tertiary institution programs.

JAMB further explained that some students were admitted into National Diploma programs without the Board’s involvement, and it only acknowledged and endorsed those admissions after the fact.

“Many students were reportedly admitted into their institutions for National Diploma programs without the Board’s knowledge. JAMB graciously accepted and endorsed these admissions for the ND program, and that was the extent of its involvement with such candidates.

“Their subsequent admission into HND programs is outside the Board’s mandate and irrelevant to its responsibilities. Therefore, blaming the Board for issues beyond its scope is unfounded.

“Some of these candidates have engaged in activities crossing the lines of criminality, which the Board intends to address appropriately,” the statement concluded.
