JAMB Uncovers 21 Admission Seekers with Fake Results

JAMB has identified 21 candidates using fake IJMB results for 2023 admissions, primarily recommended by Ahmadu Bello University, and is taking measures to prevent such irregularities and maintain the integrity of the education sector.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has identified 21 candidates who used fake IJMB results in their applications for the 2023 admissions process. These candidates were recommended for admission by various institutions.

According to a policy document obtained by our correspondent in Abuja, JAMB revealed that out of the 21 candidates, 12 were recommended by Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

“JAMB discovered that 21 candidates with fake IJMB results were recommended for admission during the 2023 cycle. However, these recommendations were not approved,” the document stated. “Twelve of these recommendations came from ABU, Zaria, which demonstrates an audacious disregard for the rules. These recommendations were possible because certificate screening occurred after registration. Five institutions were involved in these recommendations, and JAMB insists that all certificates must bear the signature of the institution’s head (VC/Provost/Rector).”

In 2021, JAMB introduced the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform to verify IJMB and JUPEB results. This move was in response to findings from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, regarding irregularities and the faking of results, particularly within the JUPEB Board IJMB examination results.

In a recent bulletin, JAMB emphasized the necessity for the board, as a moderator of both examinations, to take decisive action to halt these unacceptable practices.

“These proactive measures, along with others in development, are designed to ensure that the progress achieved in the education sector, especially within the examination sub-sector, is not undermined by unscrupulous individuals who do not have the best interests of Nigeria at heart,” JAMB stated.
