The University of Abuja Governing Council approved the promotion of 154 staff members, including 33 academic staff to professorial ranks, across diverse fields, reflecting the institution’s commitment to merit-based career progression and excellence.


Gwagwalada (FCT), Dec. 26, 2024 (NAN) — The Governing Council of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja), led by Air Vice Marshal Saddiq Kaita (Rtd), has approved the promotion of 154 staff members during its 98th regular meeting held on Dec. 10, 11, 12, and 14.
According to a statement by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr. Habib Yakoob, the promotions include 19 academic staff elevated to professor, 14 to associate professor, 20 to senior lecturer, six to lecturer I, and one to lecturer II. Additionally, 94 non-teaching staff were promoted, including two to deputy director, six to assistant director, and others across various grades.
The promotions cover diverse fields such as automobile engineering, energy engineering, international economic law, cardiology, media and conflict studies, curriculum studies, sociology of dance, and applied geophysics.
In her congratulatory message, Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aisha Maikudi praised the promoted staff for their dedication and hard work, reaffirming the university’s commitment to timely and merit-based career progression. She noted that all outstanding promotion cases had been resolved, with pending cases awaiting external assessments.
“These promotions reflect our commitment to fostering excellence and encouraging growth among our staff. I congratulate all those promoted and urge them to continue advancing the university’s vision of academic and professional distinction,” Prof. Maikudi stated.
