The Ekiti State College of Nursing Sciences faces criticism for charging N1 million per room for substandard hostel accommodations, prompting demands for fee reductions and improved living conditions.

The Ekiti State College of Nursing Sciences, Ado-Ekiti, has come under fire for charging N250,000 per student for accommodation, totaling N1 million per room for four students, despite the substandard condition of the new hostel facilities.
Students and parents expressed outrage, citing the small size of the rooms, lack of proper ventilation, inadequate kitchen and bathroom facilities, absence of fans, and insufficient wardrobes. Previously, students paid N50,000 annually for more spacious and comfortable accommodations in the old hostel.
The Parents’ Body and the school’s alumni association have demanded a reduction in fees to N100,000 per student and limiting room occupancy to two students. They criticized the new hostel as being the most expensive in Ekiti State and the Southwest region, despite its poor amenities and design.
The alumni also urged the management to revert to the old hostel system or allow students to seek affordable housing alternatives. Efforts to get a response from the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Mrs. Adaramola, were unsuccessful, as she declined to comment over the phone.
