After struggling for three years in medical school, Amarachi Osuji switched to chemical engineering at the University of Debrecen, graduated as the best student with a 4.90 CGPA, earned a master’s from Tufts University, and is now pursuing a PhD in biotechnology.
Amarachi Osuji has made history as the best graduating student at the University of Debrecen, Hungary, earning a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with an impressive 4.90/5.00 CGPA.
Her journey was anything but conventional. Amarachi initially pursued medicine at the same university but struggled academically for three years before realizing it wasn’t the right fit for her. In 2016, she made the bold decision to switch to chemical engineering, a choice she later described as “the best decision I ever made.”
Despite entering an entirely new field, she not only adapted but excelled, graduating with distinction in 2020. Amarachi credits her success to her parents’ unwavering support, acknowledging their sacrifices and encouragement throughout her transition.
Her academic achievements didn’t stop there. She went on to earn a master’s degree from Tufts University, Massachusetts, in 2023 and is currently pursuing a PhD in biotechnology at the same institution while working as a graduate assistant.
