Professor Ugochukwu Okonkwo of the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

In a highly contested election, Engr. Prof. Ugochukwu Okonkwo triumphed over fellow candidates: Prof. Ezeagu Akaolisa (Civil Engineering), Prof. Chuka Nwoye (Materials & Metallurgical Engineering), and Prof. Anazia Emmanuel (Electrical Engineering).
Professor Okonkwo received 70 votes out of 147 cast, securing his victory.
The vote tally was as follows:
- Engr. Prof. Ugochukwu Okonkwo: 70 votes
- Engr. Prof. Ezeagu Akaolisa: 21 votes
- Engr. Prof. Chuka Nwoye: 19 votes
- Engr. Prof. Anazia Emmanuel: 35 votes
- 2 votes were deemed invalid
The special Faculty Board meeting was Chaired by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph I. Ikechebelu who was represented by Professor Au Nonyelu (SAVC on General Duties), and the University’s Deputy Registrar (Personnel), Dr
Blessing Ezeafulukwe.
