13-Year-Old Joshua Suddith Breaks Martin Luther King Jr.’s Record, Gains Admission to Morehouse College

At just 13, Joshua Suddith made history by becoming the youngest student admitted to Morehouse College, breaking Martin Luther King Jr.’s record and setting his sights on a global impact through international relations.

At just 13 years old, Joshua Suddith has made history by securing admission to Morehouse College, surpassing the record set by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who enrolled at the institution at 15.

Joshua’s journey toward this milestone began at age four when he first learned about Dr. King’s academic achievements. Inspired by the civil rights leader, he set a personal goal to break that record—a dream he realized on his 13th birthday when he received his acceptance letter from Morehouse College.

A child prodigy, Joshua displayed exceptional intelligence from infancy. He was speaking by nine months, reading by 18 months, and wrote his first book at three. His mother, Chaundra Suddith, describes him as a “miracle,” recalling how she underwent in-utero surgery at just 19 weeks pregnant to ensure his survival.

Academically, Joshua excelled far beyond his peers, skipping multiple grades—from second to fifth, then seventh, and eventually 11th. By the age of 12, he had already received over 20 college acceptance letters, including offers from Jackson State University, Tennessee State University, Shaw University, and Miles College. While still in high school, he dual-enrolled at Augusta Technical College, where he earned 27 credit hours with a 3.88 GPA.

Joshua has always been passionate about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), with Morehouse College standing out as his top choice. Although he has applied to prestigious institutions such as Harvard, MIT, Georgia Tech, Emory, Yale, and Princeton, his heart remains set on Morehouse, where he plans to study international relations to make a global impact.

His achievements have garnered recognition from Morehouse alumni, The Black Man Can Inc., and CBCA/Robert Mason. While he has been awarded a merit scholarship to Hills Academy, his family is hopeful for additional full-ride scholarships to support his education.

Despite his academic success, Joshua enjoys a balanced life, playing basketball and the piano in his free time. His father, Joshua Suddith Sr., expresses immense pride in his son’s accomplishments, emphasizing the importance of keeping faith at the center of his journey.

Although accepted into Morehouse, Joshua plans to defer his enrollment for a year to complete high school before officially beginning his college journey. Reflecting on his success, he shared, “I am driven by a passion for learning and making a positive impact in the world. Whether it’s excelling in academics or inspiring others, I am committed to growing and improving.”
