Broader Context: Record-Breaking Year for UTME Scores
2025 has been a notable year for UTME performance nationwide. According to JAMB statistics, 17,025 candidates (0.88%) scored 300 and above—marking the best performance rate since 2013. This is a dramatic increase compared to 2017, when only 1,989 candidates (0.12%) reached the same threshold.
Education expert Alex Onyia, CEO of Educare, highlighted the improvements in student outcomes, especially among those who had to resit the UTME. He shared the story of Nwaroh Chidindu Emmanuel, who initially scored 170 due to a technical error but jumped to 301 in a retake, scoring:
- English: 71
- Mathematics: 81
- Physics: 77
- Chemistry: 72
“This youngster was wrongly graded 170 due to the error and now 301 in just 48 hours of preparation. Finally, our students have been vindicated,” Onyia stated.
These stories reflect a broader trend of resilience, strong preparation, and institutional support helping students excel despite challenges.
