Police detain seven Jigawa teachers over exam malpractice

The Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board confirmed the arrest of seven teachers for exam malpractice during a statewide assessment aimed at improving teaching standards and accountability in Jigawa.

The Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has confirmed that seven teachers have been arrested by the police for alleged involvement in examination malpractice during a statewide assessment.

The Board’s Executive Chairman, Haruna Musa, disclosed this while supervising the exercise across different centres. He explained that the teachers were handed over to security authorities for proper investigation.

According to him, the move is part of the state government’s broader effort to reform the education sector and improve teaching quality. He emphasized that the assessment is designed to strengthen standards and ensure that only qualified and dedicated teachers remain in the system.

Musa also reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing learning gaps and improving educational outcomes through accountability, warning that examination malpractice will not be tolerated as it undermines the integrity of the system.

Over 8,400 teachers participated in the Teacher Training Needs Assessment carried out across the state to evaluate their competence and identify areas for improvement.
