Enugu Police Allegedly Abandon Search for Missing UNN Student After Collecting ₦25,000 ‘Tracking Fee’

Enugu police have been accused of abandoning the search for a missing UNN student, Uzodinma Nkwachi Florence, after collecting ₦25,000 as a “tracking fee” and claiming they could not proceed due to lack of contact with police in Calabar, where the student was reportedly traced.

The Nigerian Police in Enugu State have been accused of abandoning the search for Uzodinma Nkwachi Florence, a missing University of Nigeria (UNN) student, after collecting ₦25,000 from her father as a “tracking fee” and claiming they could not proceed due to lack of contact with their counterparts in Calabar, Cross River State, where the student was reportedly traced.

Barrister Ege Obetta, a constitutional rights advocate, revealed that Florence had been missing for over a month and might have been kidnapped. He criticized the university’s Chief Security Officer (CSO) for initially refusing to assist the student’s father and reluctantly involving the police after persuasion.

Obetta stated that after receiving the ₦25,000 fee, the police claimed to have tracked Florence to Calabar but refused to continue the search, instructing her father to personally travel to rescue her. He has called on Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi to urgently intervene in the matter.
