New Federal Agriculture University in Iragbiji Set to Launch in October — Ministry of Education

The Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies (FUADSI) in Iragbiji, Osun State, is set to begin academic activities by October 2025, following a successful inspection by the Federal Ministry of Education and strong support from community stakeholders.

The Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies (FUADSI) located in Iragbiji, Osun State, is expected to commence academic activities before the end of 2025, with student admissions projected for October, according to the Federal Ministry of Education.

A delegation from the Ministry, led by Mrs. Rakiya Ilyasu, Director of the University Education Department, confirmed the university’s readiness during a three-day inspection of its facilities. The visit included assessments of the administrative block, take-off site, and permanent campus. The institution was approved earlier this year by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking at the permanent campus, Mrs. Ilyasu commended the progress made since the university’s approval. She emphasized the importance of appointing principal officers and noted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) would soon carry out resource verification.

“We are impressed with the facilities and the enthusiasm of the host community,” she stated. “Once the principal officers are appointed, FUADSI can be included in the JAMB brochure, allowing prospective students to select the university from September.”

The delegation also acknowledged support from key stakeholders, including the wife of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola, and the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi Odundun IV. Both have pledged personal resources and properties to aid the institution’s take-off.

Mrs. Oyetola reaffirmed the community’s readiness, saying, “I’m willing to provide land and structures to support the university’s immediate needs. Kabiyesi has also shown remarkable commitment to this cause.”

Oba Olabomi, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, welcomed the team and expressed hope that the federal government would expedite the university’s full operationalization. “Our collective prayer is to see this university begin its academic journey before the end of this year,” he said.

Also in the visiting delegation were Dr. Victoria Pillah from the NUC; Deputy Director Mr. Emmanuel Onung; and Assistant Directors Mr. Paul Okpe and Mrs. Martha Ayesukwe, all from the University Education Department of the Ministry.
