BUK Expels 57 Students Over Exam Misconduct

Bayero University Kano (BUK) has expelled 57 students across various faculties for examination misconduct, following a Senate ruling.

Bayero University Kano (BUK) has expelled 57 students for involvement in examination malpractice, following a resolution of the institution’s Senate during its 427th meeting on September 10, 2025.

The university stated that the action was carried out in line with the General Examination and Academic Regulations (GEAR), which apply to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Senate’s Decision

The announcement, signed by Malam Aminu Wada Kurawa, Director of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions, and Records (DEAR), confirmed that the affected students cut across multiple faculties and departments.

In addition to the expulsions:

• 8 students were rusticated,
• 2 students were cleared of wrongdoing, and
• The case of Yusuf Muhammad Sani (ENG/18/CIV/00065) was deferred for further investigation by the Senate Business Committee (SBC).

Kurawa emphasized that the sanctions reflect the university’s commitment to upholding academic integrity and discouraging all forms of examination misconduct.

Educationist Imaan Muhammad welcomed the move, describing it as a “right step in the right direction.” She noted that cheating erodes the value of academic qualifications and undermines hardworking students, adding that BUK’s decision sends a strong message that academic integrity is non-negotiable.
