Nigerian Graduate Set To Break World Singing Record, Aims to Sing for 150 Hours

CURSORY: Emmanuel Okikiola, is a young Nigerian, who is about to embark on a 150-hour singing marathon. If he succeeds, it would be the longest singing marathon in history.

On Tuesday, December 12, Okikiola, a 22-year-old Ekiti State University graduate from microbiology, will begin his attempt to set a world record.

Emmanuel Okikiola’s proposal to break and establish a new record for the longest singing marathon—150 hours—has been accepted by Guinness World Records.

The 22-year-old recent graduate of Ekiti State University wants to surpass the record held by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare, who sang for 105 hours.

From March 3 to 7, 2012, Sunil Waghmare accomplished the record in Nagpur by playing a wide range of well-known Indian songs without repetition for a duration of four hours.

According to the Osun state native who graduated in microbiology, he was inspired by his love and passion for singing. He said that over 250 million Nigerians can be inspired and messages can be conveyed through music.

According to him: “We have talented ones here, and I am one of them. This has motivated me, and I feel I have to bring it out. I have to do this to pass out so much information because with music you can pass out a lot of information to the country”.

To break the singing record, Okikiola will perform more than 500 songs.

When questioned about how many songs he had planned for his 150-hour sing-a-thon bid to break the Guinness World Record, he said, ‘I have nothing less than 500 songs on ground and I am still adding more.”

In addition, Okikiola revealed that he was physically and logistically prepared to surpass the 150 hours record.

He said that 62 hours into his previous attempt, he had failed because of logistical problems and gadget malfunctions.

Okikiola said: “I started one on December 3rd, that was just for testing, and I was able to do 62 hours. But there were some logistics issue that I had, my camera broke down, and my time stopped.”

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, in Akure, the capital of Ondo state, Okikiola is scheduled to begin his attempt at breaking world record.

The Sing-a-thon will begin at 9am at the Mountain of Deliverance Prayer Ministry, commonly known as Seganmidogo, located at Honeymoon Junction, next to Bolafoluwa School, Ondo road, Akure.

Additionally, gospel artist Abel Praise and Nollywood actress Toyin Adegbola will be present at the location.
