A man returned to his former secondary school more than 15 years later to joyfully see the tree he planted in SS1, reflecting on how the experience shaped his journey from aspiring doctor to passionate forester.

A Nigerian man has stirred reactions online after sharing a heartwarming moment from his visit to his former secondary school, where he checked on a tree he planted as an SS1 student more than 15 years ago.

The emotional reunion was posted on TikTok by @farmer_olufad, and the clip has already gathered over 20,000 likes.

Man Revisits His Former School

In the trending video, the farmer disclosed that he attended Alma Master Secondary School in Lagos. He explained that the tree he went back to see wasn’t planted randomly — it was assigned to him as part of a school climate-change initiative.

He also revealed that he once headed the school’s Climate Change Club, a project he said was established under the administration of former Lagos State governor Raji Fashola.

From Medicine to Forestry

According to him, his dream at the time was to become a medical doctor, but life took a different turn. Over the years, his love for the environment grew stronger, eventually shaping his career path in forestry.

In the video, he beams with excitement as he stands beside the tree, now a tall and thriving Gmelina.

“Back in 2009, when I led the Climate Change Club initiated by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, our simple goal was to plant a tree and hopefully win a prize.

I never won anything, but I found something far more valuable — purpose. Fifteen years later, I returned to my alma mater and saw my Gmelina arborea still standing tall. A reminder that true impact lasts far longer than applause.

I thought I wanted to study medicine, but God planted forestry in me. Today, I’m grateful for the journey. Leaders plant seeds; time reveals their value.”
