Governor Dapo Abiodun ordered an investigation and shut down Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School after a gas leak hospitalised dozens of students and staff, while authorities work to determine the cause and provide treatment.

Governor Dapo Abiodun has directed a full investigation into a gas leak incident at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, which left several students hospitalised.
The incident occurred on Wednesday shortly after the school’s morning assembly, when a suspected gas spread across the premises. About 30 students and at least one teacher were affected and taken for medical treatment.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, the governor instructed security agencies to uncover the cause of the leak and ensure measures are put in place to prevent a recurrence.
As part of the response, the government ordered the immediate closure of the school. A situation room has also been set up at General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode to provide free medical care for affected students and residents in nearby areas, including Makalewo, Ogbogbo, Molipa, Igbegba, Ikoto, and Oke-Aje.
Residents have been advised not to panic, as authorities say there is no confirmed security threat linked to the incident. Officials from the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency have deployed gas analysers to identify the source and nature of the substance.
Government representatives have visited both the school and the hospital, confirming that most of the victims are currently in stable condition. However, the exact cause of the gas leak remains unknown, with early suspicions pointing to possible laboratory chemicals or nearby human activities.
