An official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has stirred reactions online after advising male corps members to stop trying to impress women they like with food and gifts instead of clearly expressing their feelings.

Speaking during an orientation camp session, the official addressed common relationship habits among corps members, warning that many young men waste money trying to gain attention without actually stating their intentions. She emphasized that buying food or giving gifts is not a substitute for honest communication.

According to her, male corps members should be confident enough to speak up directly rather than relying on silent gestures that may be misunderstood. She encouraged them to openly tell a woman how they feel and ask for a clear response instead of making assumptions.

She added that being straightforward helps avoid confusion, emotional stress, and unnecessary spending. If the feelings are not mutual or the response is uncertain, she advised them to move on rather than continue investing time and resources.

Her comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some people agreeing that clear communication is better, especially given the current economic situation, while others joked about men doing “boyfriend duties” for women who may not feel the same way.
