Kwara Sanctions Teacher for Assaulting NYSC Member

The Kwara State Government has demoted and transferred a teacher, Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike, for assaulting an NYSC member, emphasizing its commitment to preventing such incidents and upholding professional standards.

The Kwara State Government has taken disciplinary action against a secondary school teacher, Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike, for assaulting a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member. The teacher has been demoted by two grade levels and transferred from Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, to an undisclosed location.

A government panel, led by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, concluded that the measures aim to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In a joint statement, the panel found Hajia Fatimoh guilty of “fighting on duty, use of foul language, insubordination, and disrespect for the national identity represented by the NYSC uniform.”

The statement explained:
“Her actions violate public service rules, and she has been demoted accordingly. She will also be transferred to a different school and required to attend counselling sessions.”

The government condemned the teacher’s behavior, emphasizing that it does not reflect the values of the state. “The Kwara State Government will not tolerate any form of abuse under any circumstance,” the statement read, expressing regret over the incident and reassuring the NYSC management of its commitment to the safety and dignity of corps members.

Teachers across the state were reminded to adhere to professional standards and perform their duties lawfully. The government reaffirmed its commitment to improving training on teaching ethics and service protocols.
