A man shared how he rejected a fully funded scholarship abroad because of his girlfriend, only for her to later leave him, leaving him full of regret.
A young man has stirred reactions online after explaining why he turned down a fully funded opportunity to study abroad—only to later be heartbroken.
The man, known as @TJKings01 on X (formerly Twitter), revealed that during his National Diploma (ND) days, he was deeply in love and in a committed relationship. When he received a scholarship offer to study in China, he shared the good news with his family, who encouraged and supported him to take the opportunity.
However, things took a different turn when he informed his girlfriend. She opposed the idea, expressing fears that he might leave her behind and move on with someone else. Influenced by her concerns and his feelings for her, he decided to reject the scholarship.
Later on, after they completed their ND program, the situation changed unexpectedly. His girlfriend gained admission into the university through direct entry—going against their earlier plans. Not long after, she ended the relationship, stating that she could not handle a long-distance relationship.
Recounting the experience, he explained that she called him one day to break things off, despite being the reason he had initially turned down the opportunity.
The post, which included screenshots of their conversation, has since gone viral, with many social media users reacting in shock and disbelief at his decision and the eventual outcome.
