David Adedeji, a top-performing OAU student with a 4.95 CGPA and a 1430 SAT score, overcame strikes, funding challenges, and visa delays to secure a fully funded scholarship to study Computer & Information Science in the United States.

David Adedeji, a brilliant Nigerian student from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), has achieved remarkable success by securing a fully funded scholarship to study in the United States. Despite facing academic setbacks due to prolonged strikes, David’s determination and perseverance led him to earn an outstanding CGPA of 4.95/5.0, one of the highest in his set.
David’s academic journey at OAU was disrupted by the 2022 ASUU strike, but he used the time to prepare for the SAT, scoring 1430/1600, including an exceptional 790 in Mathematics. He applied to top global institutions, including Princeton and Oxford, but faced funding challenges.
However, David’s breakthrough came when he received a fully funded scholarship to study Computer & Information Science at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) in 2024. He had to overcome visa processing delays and changes to the US visa policy, but his persistence paid off.
On December 31st, David’s visa was approved, and he is now studying at UAPB, having restarted his bachelor’s degree with a full scholarship. He attributes his success to God, sponsors, and everyone who supported him.
David’s story is an inspiration to many, reminding them that “Your dreams are valid, even when the email comes late, even when the strike lasts long, and even when the visa date looks impossible”.
