Four NYSC members, a soldier, and another passenger lost their lives after a military truck collided with a commercial bus and sparked a deadly fire on the Yola–Song highway in Adamawa State.
A devastating road accident in Adamawa State has claimed the lives of six people, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and a Nigerian Army officer. The fatal crash occurred along the Yola–Song highway near Barikin-Sajo when a military truck collided head-on with a commercial Hummer bus.
According to reports, the military vehicle was attempting to overtake another vehicle on a bend when it veered into the path of the oncoming bus. The impact triggered a massive fire that quickly engulfed the commercial vehicle, trapping several passengers inside.
Witnesses at the scene described the incident as horrific, with flames spreading rapidly and leaving little opportunity for those inside the bus to escape. While some eyewitnesses suggested that the number of casualties could be higher, authorities officially confirmed six deaths.
The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed that all five passengers in the bus died in the inferno. Preliminary investigations identified four of the victims as serving NYSC members posted to Adamawa State, while another passenger also lost their life. A soldier travelling in the military vehicle later died from injuries sustained in the collision.
Emergency responders and security personnel arrived at the scene to evacuate the victims and clear the wreckage. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident as families of the deceased mourn their loved ones.
The tragedy has renewed concerns about road safety, reckless overtaking, and adherence to traffic regulations on Nigerian highways, where fatal crashes continue to claim lives despite repeated warnings from road safety agencies.
