After surviving a near-fatal electrocution that left her with a serious arm injury, 21-year-old journalism student Tegan Hood graduated from the University of Lancashire with a first-class honours degree through determination and resilience.
Tegan Hood, a journalism student at the University of Lancashire, has celebrated graduating with a first-class honours degree after overcoming a life-threatening accident that nearly claimed her life.
The 21-year-old suffered a severe electric shock while working at her part-time job, leaving her with serious injuries to one of her arms. Despite the physical and emotional challenges that followed, she remained determined to complete her studies.
Reflecting on her journey, Tegan said she refused to let the accident define her or stop her from achieving her goals. She described graduating with first-class honours as a reward for her resilience, perseverance, and hard work.
Returning to university after the accident was difficult, but she remained committed to succeeding, even while adapting to life with the use of only one arm.
During her three years at university, Tegan gained extensive practical experience by completing more than 100 placement days with major media organisations, including the BBC, Global Radio, and the Liverpool Echo. She also worked as a reporter for Blog Preston, where she broke an exclusive story about a teenager living with an extremely rare genetic condition.
Beyond traditional journalism, Tegan documented her university experience and career journey on TikTok and Instagram. Her content attracted a large following, and one of her videos went viral, earning her an invitation to appear on the BBC’s The One Show.
Her graduation marks the successful conclusion of a remarkable journey, demonstrating how determination and resilience can help overcome even the most difficult obstacles.
