As part of efforts to increase school enrolment, the Yobe state government has embarked on renovation of structures burnt down by the Boko Haram insurgents and construction of new ones in the local government councils affected by the insurgency.


The Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Muhammad Sani Idriss, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the achievements of his ministry, saying Governor Mai Mala Buni is doing remarkably well in the education sector.
Idriss said the sum of N297 million was spent for renovation and construction of blocks of classrooms in Damaturu and Gujba local government councils.
“The cost of the completed and ongoing projects under this administration, especially in this ministry amounts to N296, 879, 040.00. They are mainly structures destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgents and the construction of the new ones.

According to the commissioner, the projects include blocks of classrooms, library, gate house, perimeter fencing, multi-purpose halls, kitchen and dining halls. Others were VIP apartments, toilets among others.
He further said while this projects have reached advanced stages of completion, efforts were underway to commence the 2nd phase of the project once the phase one are completed and funds made available.Blueprint gathered that some of the projects that are yet to commence were due to vulnerability of the areas located in the nooks and crannies of the state.
