The Kano State government has described as misleading a report on a social media platform alleging that the Chairman of the state Fund Raising Committee on COVID-19 and Vice-Chancellor, Bayero University, Prof. Yahuza Bello tested positive to the deadly virus.

A statement by the commissioner for Information and member of the committee, Mallam Muhammad Garba said the report is fake and being touted by naughty elements.

“It is orchestrated just to mislead the public. The chairman is not suspected of contracting the virus talk less of being tested and found positive for the virus,” the statement added.

Garba explained that Prof. Bello is not a member of the state Task Force on COVID-19 but chairs the 40-member Fund Raising Committee and has not at any point had contact with members of the Task Force.

He said the chairman is not suspected of contracting the virus and has been hale and hearty, urging the public to disregard the report as baseless.

The commissioner said the state government remains open on the situation of the disease and will continue to keep the public abreast of any developing story.
