Lady laments unusual NYSC assignment

A distressed female NYSC member went viral after revealing she was unusually posted to manage a cemetery, sparking widespread humour, sympathy, and debate over the appropriateness and safety of such NYSC assignments.

A female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has gone viral after revealing that she was posted to serve as a cemetery manager, an assignment she described as frightening and confusing.

In a video circulating widely on social media, the visibly distressed corper said she pleaded with NYSC officials to reject the posting, but her request was denied.

“I begged them to reject me”

According to her,
“I’m the first female corper to serve in a cemetery as a manager. I begged them to reject me but they refused. Who am I supposed to manage in a cemetery?”

Her complaint quickly sparked reactions online as Nigerians expressed shock, amusement, and concern over how such a role could exist under the NYSC scheme.

Many questioned the relevance and safety of assigning a young corps member—especially a woman— to oversee cemetery operations, while others joked about the unusual nature of her primary place of assignment.

Social media reactions

The video has triggered a mix of sympathy and humour, with several users offering lighthearted takes on the situation:

  • @iamcmurris: “Nor be you go study human anatomy and embamistry.”
  • @cryto_psalm: “As a corper you go manager corpse. A person who sings is a singer; a person who manages corpse is a corper.”
  • @umenta: “So like this, if you no go work, nobody go report you?”
  • @Sir_muba: “Cries out ke? She dey crash out like mad.”
  • @Femi_Daveed: “Wait… na cruise abi na real??? NYSC don dey act prank too?”

The clip continues to spread across platforms, prompting fresh conversations about NYSC posting procedures and the need to protect corps members from uncomfortable or unsuitable assignments.

The lady’s video remains a trending topic as many call for greater scrutiny in selecting primary places of assignment to ensure that young graduates are not placed in unsafe or unconventional environments.
