  • How OAU Post-UTME (Aptitude Test) scores are calculated
  • How to calculate your final aggregate score
  • The minimum score required for admission consideration

OAU Admission Screening Components

OAU uses three major components when calculating a candidate’s aggregate score:

  1. O’Level Results (10%)
  2. JAMB Score (50%)
  3. Post-UTME/Aptitude Test Score (40%)

Your final aggregate score is obtained by adding these three components together.

O’Level Result Calculation (10%)

OAU considers only five relevant subjects related to your chosen course.

The grading system is as follows:

GradePoint
A12.0
B21.8
B31.6
C41.4
C51.2
C61.0

Example

Suppose a candidate has the following grades:

  • English Language – B2 = 1.8
  • Mathematics – B3 = 1.6
  • Biology – A1 = 2.0
  • Chemistry – C4 = 1.4
  • Physics – C4 = 1.4

Total O’Level Point:

1.8 + 1.6 + 2.0 + 1.4 + 1.4 = 8.2

The maximum obtainable O’Level point is 10.0.

Important Note

For admission purposes, universities generally require at least five credits. Grades below C6 are typically not accepted for required subjects.

JAMB Score Calculation (50%)

To be eligible for OAU’s Post-UTME screening exercise, candidates are usually expected to score at least 200 in JAMB.

OAU converts JAMB scores into admission points by dividing the JAMB score by 8.

Formula

JAMB Point = JAMB Score ÷ 8

Example

If a candidate scores 295 in JAMB:

295 ÷ 8 = 36.875

Therefore, the candidate’s JAMB contribution to the aggregate score is 36.88 points.

OAU Post-UTME (Aptitude Test) Calculation (40%)

OAU’s Post-UTME is often referred to as an Aptitude Test.

Candidates answer questions from:

  • Three UTME subject combinations
  • One General Aptitude section

Each section contains 10 questions, making a total of 40 questions.

Example Score

Suppose a candidate scores:

  • Biology = 8/10
  • Chemistry = 8/10
  • Physics = 10/10
  • Aptitude Test = 6/10

Total Post-UTME Score:

8 + 8 + 10 + 6 = 32/40

The candidate’s Post-UTME contribution is therefore 32 points.

How to Calculate Your OAU Aggregate Score

To calculate your aggregate, simply add:

  • O’Level Point
  • JAMB Point
  • Post-UTME Score

Example

Assume a candidate has:

  • O’Level Point = 7.2
  • JAMB Point = 36.88
  • Post-UTME Score = 32

Aggregate Score:

7.2 + 36.88 + 32 = 76.08

Final Aggregate = 76.08

Minimum Requirement for Admission Consideration

One important requirement candidates should note is that:

The sum of your O’Level score and Post-UTME score must be above 25 before you can be considered for admission.

For example:

  • O’Level Score = 7.2
  • Post-UTME Score = 32

Total = 39.2

Since this is above 25, the candidate is eligible for admission consideration.

How to Improve Your OAU Aggregate Score

If you are aiming for competitive courses such as:

  • Medicine and Surgery
  • Nursing
  • Pharmacy
  • Law
  • Computer Science
  • Engineering

You should focus on:

  1. Scoring very high in JAMB.
  2. Obtaining strong O’Level grades, especially A’s and B’s.
  3. Preparing thoroughly for the OAU Post-UTME Aptitude Test.

A high Post-UTME score can significantly boost your chances of gaining admission, even if your JAMB score is not among the very highest.

Final Thoughts

OAU’s admission process is highly competitive, and understanding how the aggregate score is calculated helps you set realistic targets.

The formula is straightforward:

Aggregate Score = O’Level Point + JAMB Point + Post-UTME Score

The higher your aggregate score, the better your chances of securing admission into your desired course.

If you are preparing for the OAU Post-UTME, ensure you start early, practice past questions consistently, and work towards maximizing every component of the aggregate calculation.
