AE-FUNAI College of Medicine receives approval for Pre-clinical accreditation

The College of Medicine, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, has received approval for Pre-Clinical Accreditation from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

This good news was conveyed by the Secretary of the Council, Dr. T. A. B. Sanusi in a letter dated 27th April, 2021 with reference number MDCN/1617/vol.1/84 to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sunday Elom.

It states: “Council at its 6th plenary meeting held from 19th to 21st April, 2021 at Abuja has considered the report of the verification visitation team sent to your College of Medicine on the on 5th March, 2021.

“I am to convey approval for Pre-Clinical Accreditation of your College. You are to adhere strictly to training of fifty (50)”, the letter stated.

The Registrar of the Council, Dr. Sanusi in the letter also noted: “Please, note that you are required to notify Council when you schedule the part 1 professional examinations, to enable us send observers to the examination.”

With this approval, the University’s College of Medicine can commence her 2nd Bachelor of Medicine (MB) examinations.

Recall that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria had on 9th March, 2021 visited the University for the purpose of pre-clinical accreditation of her MBBS programme.

While responding to the approval, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his happiness on the feat, noting that the pre-clinical accreditation for the College of Medicine of the University was a milestone. Adding that what takes some Universities many years to achieve was attained by AE-FUNAI in just one attempt.

He further used the opportunity to maintain that the MBBS Programme would be the flagship of the University, assuring that Management would put all necessary things in place to ensure that students were given the quality and competitive medical education.
