Anambra Suspends Head Teacher for Allowing Political Rally in School

Anambra State has suspended a head teacher for permitting a political rally to take place within a school premises.

A primary school head teacher in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State has been indefinitely suspended for allowing a political rally to take place within the school premises.

The suspension was announced by the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Awka.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Anambra State Ministry of Education had earlier, on August 14, issued a circular banning the use of school premises for political, social, or religious gatherings.

Chuma-Udeh stated that the head teacher of Community Primary School, Umunze, violated this directive, which prohibits unauthorized gatherings in educational institutions. She expressed concern over the disruption of academic activities and the safety risks posed to pupils during the rally.

“The state government is preparing to take legal action against the organisers of the rally, which disrupted learning and endangered the lives of the children,”
Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh

Earlier that same day, the Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Mr. Shedrack Azubuike, stopped another unapproved political rally at a primary school, explaining that his action aligned with the state government’s ban on political, religious, or social gatherings in schools during school hours.
