LAUTECH celebrated its 35th anniversary and 17th convocation by graduating 11,528 students, including 94 with first-class honours, while unveiling new academic programs and highlighting its rising global reputation.


Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, celebrated its 17th convocation alongside its 35th anniversary. During a press briefing, Vice Chancellor Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu announced that 94 students graduated with first-class honours from a total of 11,528 graduates. Additionally, 2,086 students earned second-class upper degrees, 3,494 graduated with second-class lower, 756 with third class, and 12 with a pass. Of these, 8,102 graduates received bachelor’s degrees.
In the health sciences, performance was equally notable. Seven Nursing students graduated with distinction, 1,741 attained upper credit, and 145 achieved lower credit. In Medicine and Surgery, 133 students earned a pass grade, which the Vice Chancellor described as reflecting a satisfactory academic standard within the discipline.
A lineup of events was scheduled to mark the convocation and anniversary. These include a tree-planting ceremony, research fair and exhibition, convocation play, and cultural performances on April 16. The convocation lecture and alumni day are slated for April 17, with Jumat and church services on April 18 and 20. The award of first degrees and prizes will be held on April 22, followed by postgraduate and higher degree awards on April 23.
Professor Kalilu also announced the successful verification and operationalization of six new academic programmes: Theatre Arts, Psychology, Mass Communication, Linguistics, Yoruba, and Political Science. Additionally, five new courses have been introduced under the university’s Open and Distance Learning platform, including Cyber Security Science and Environmental Protection.
LAUTECH continues to expand its global presence through academic collaborations and research partnerships with institutions such as the University of Kentucky, the University of Utah, and Germany’s Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The university has maintained its ranking as Nigeria’s best state university and was recently placed second nationally and within the 251–300 range globally in the 2025 Interdisciplinary Science Ranking. Professor Kalilu emphasized LAUTECH’s ambition to become one of the world’s top 100 universities, calling on stakeholders to support this vision.
