Principal Demoted To Classroom Teacher For Embezzling Students’ WAEC and NECO Fees

Cursory: The Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Saminaka, Lapai, has been demoted for embezzling students’ exam fees. Over 40 students affected in WAEC, 13 in NECO. Ministry will register affected students. The Case has been forwarded for disciplinary action.

Ndatsu Yahaya, the Principal of Government Day Secondary School in Saminaka, Lapai local government area, has been demoted from his position for embezzling funds meant for WAEC and NECO fees of some students in the school.

When questioned about the missing money, Yahaya claimed that he had given it to a POS operator whose whereabouts he no longer knows.However, sources suggest that the principal had attempted to invest the money in a dubious venture, which ultimately failed.

The Director of Test Measurement and Evaluation, Garba Hassan, stated that under pressure from the community, Yahaya approached the Ministry in an attempt to influence the registration of students for WAEC, but his efforts were unsuccessful, leading him to confess his misdeeds.

The Director revealed that over 40 students were affected in the WAEC case and 13 students in the NECO case. The Ministry has taken the responsibility to register the affected students for the external examinations of WAEC and NECO.

Besides being demoted to a classroom teacher, Yahaya has paid N80,000 of the embezzled money, and his salary will be used to pay back the remaining amount. Additionally, his case has been forwarded to the CAC for disciplinary action according to civil service rules.

Garba further disclosed that principals of five other secondary schools in the state are being investigated for similar allegations of embezzling examination fees of students. The state Ministry of Education has called for calm and assured affected parents that they will be reimbursed.
