Armed Robber Dies after Falling Into Well After Raiding UNICROSS Students’ Lodge

An armed robbery suspect, identified simply by his nickname Bob Jay, fell into an open well on Friday night after he and other gang members raided a students’ lodge near the UNICROSS Ogoja campus.

An armed robbery suspect, known by his nickname Bob Jay, fell into an open well on Friday night after he and other gang members raided a students’ lodge near the UNICROSS Ogoja campus.

According to a student named Regina, the robbers attacked the lodge around midnight, stealing laptops, phones, and money. During their escape, one of the robbers fell into an open well while attempting to flee with the stolen items.

“They came around midnight and robbed all the students in the Ogoja students’ lodge. They stabbed one student and broke another’s head with a stick before escaping with phones, laptops, and other valuables,” Regina told Vanguard over the phone.

The well, used by students for bathing and washing clothes, has no cover. It wasn’t until dawn, when students went to fetch water, that they discovered the body of one of the robbers inside. The community identified the deceased as Bob Jay from Mbube, a neighboring village.

The police were notified and retrieved the body. The other gang members have not yet been identified, as the robber’s phone found in his pocket is damaged.
