Babcock University has denied allegations of sexual misconduct against Vice-Chancellor candidate Afolarin Ojewole, calling the claims false, baseless, and an attempt to disrupt its transparent selection process.

Babcock University has strongly denied allegations circulating online that a candidate for Vice-Chancellor, Afolarin Ojewole, was involved in past sexual misconduct, calling the report false, malicious, and baseless.
In an official statement, the university labeled the claims as a “fabricated attempt to tarnish reputations” and disrupt its transparent leadership selection process as current Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ademola Tayo prepares to step down in November.
The university emphasized that:
- No complaints or disciplinary actions have ever been filed against Ojewole.
- The so-called Apostles Seventh-Day Adventist advocacy group and its coordinator, Samson Fasasi, are unknown to the school.
- Ojewole’s 2018 leave was due to family responsibilities abroad, not any scandal.
Babcock also rejected the accusation that the selection process is being manipulated to favor Ojewole, reaffirming that the Search Committee operates under strict ethical and spiritual standards, in line with Church and national policies.
Calling the article a “cheap blackmail attempt,” the university warned that it may pursue legal action if the defamatory content persists.
Babcock concluded by urging all stakeholders to avoid divisive propaganda and confirmed that a new Vice-Chancellor will be announced by December 1, 2025, following a rigorous, merit-based process.
