Babcock University has celebrated academic excellence at its 23rd convocation ceremony, awarding degrees to 3,568 graduates across various programmes, including 243 students who earned First Class honours.
Among the standout achievers was Lawal Oyiza, an Economics graduate, who emerged as the overall best graduating student with an impressive CGPA of 4.97.

In his farewell convocation address, outgoing Vice Chancellor Prof. Ademola Tayo, set to leave office in November, urged the graduates to embrace selfless service, advocate for peace and justice, and use their education to uplift humanity.
“Dear graduates, the real test of your education lies beyond this day. Use your talents to solve problems, let your values inspire hope—be fearless, be kind, be Babcock,” he said.
Reflecting on his 10-year tenure, Prof. Tayo highlighted key achievements including infrastructural growth, the launch of new academic programmes, and the university’s commitment to innovation, transparency, and global impact.
A special address was also delivered by Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei, Zimbabwean diplomat, who charged the graduating class to be active agents of peace across Africa and the world.
