Prof. Monday Igbafen, the Benin Zonal Coordinator of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), managed to escape from his kidnappers after being abducted at 9 p.m. last Saturday.
Igbafen, who is also the immediate past Chairman of ASUU at Ambrose Alli University (AAU) in Ekpoma, was seized by armed men while arriving at his residence in his ash-colored Toyota Highlander SUV, with registration number ABJ 180 JQ.
The kidnappers fled the scene in his vehicle, taking him to an undisclosed location.
Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent Moses Yamu, confirmed Igbafen’s escape on Monday, stating that law enforcement is actively searching for the abductors.
Yamu noted, “The Ekpoma Division of the Edo Police Command applied pressure on the kidnappers, which led to the victim’s escape. We are working to apprehend the suspects and ensure they face justice.”
Attempts to reach Igbafen through his MTN and GLO phone numbers for details about his escape were unsuccessful at press time.
