The Benue government shut down the Benedictine Order of Peace and Unity Academy in Makurdi for running below par, operating illegally in an unfinished hotel without proper teachers, a curriculum, or even uniforms, and told parents to move their kids to approved schools.

The Benue State Government has shut down the Benedictine Order of Peace and Unity Academy Foundation, located in Nyiman, Makurdi, due to its failure to meet approved educational standards.
Terna Francis, the Director General of the Bureau for Education Quality Assurance (BEQA), led the enforcement team and revealed that the school was operating illegally within an unfinished hotel building. He noted that the institution lacked essential elements like a curriculum, lesson plans, qualified teachers, and a scheme of work, while also running three different schools within the same uncompleted structure.
Francis emphasized that the school was unregistered and had not received government approval. He warned that the government would not tolerate substandard schools operating in the state. BEQA has identified 2,416 illegal schools in Benue and has already notified their proprietors to either meet the required standards or face closure.
Highlighting the risks to student safety in such environments, Francis explained that BEQA, in collaboration with the Urban Development Board, took the necessary steps to close the school to protect the children. He urged parents to withdraw their children from the institution, which lacks uniforms and proper records, and enroll them in government-approved schools.
