BINGHAM University Matriculates 1,869 Students Across 15 Faculties

Bingham University recently matriculated 1869 students across 15 faculties for the 2024/2025 academic session.

At the matriculation ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba congratulated the fresh students on their admission into the esteemed institution and encouraged them to embrace the journey ahead with dedication and discipline. He specially announced that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has given approval to the university to transition from the Bachelor of Pharmacy to the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program, making this cohort the first intake into the PharmD) program.

Prof Ayuba stated that a total of 1,869 students have officially joined Bingham University, spread across 15 faculties and 54 departments. “Bingham University is committed to producing world-class graduates equipped with knowledge, skills, and the fear of Christ. The university encourages students to align with its mission of fostering self-reliance, integrity, and excellence”.

The Vice-Chancellor outlined key responsibilities that every student must uphold to succeed at Bingham University, including timely payment of fees to avoid disruptions during examinations, mandatory lecture and chapel attendance for academic and spiritual growth, and utilizing various support channels such as academic coordinators and counseling services when needed. He also emphasized the importance of security consciousness and urged students to report any suspicious activities.

Prof Ayuba added that success depends on the students daily, committed, and sustained efforts. Therefore, graduation with a First Class, Second Class Upper, or otherwise, depends on how well they plan their academic journey.

The Guest lecturer, Associate Professor Joy Shuaibu, shared personal experiences and valuable insights to motivate the new students. She encouraged them to set clear academic and personal goals, stay focused, and seize every learning opportunity. She added that hard work, persistence, and integrity are key drivers of success. She highlighted the importance of skill acquisition and entrepreneurship, noting the changing landscape of formal employment and the need for graduates to develop essential competencies.

Time and financial management were also underscored as crucial elements of academic and personal success. Assoc. Prof. Shuaibu advised students to efficiently manage their resources responsibly stressing the importance of networking and mentorship, as building the right connections can open doors to valuable opportunities.

Assoc. Prof. Shuaibu drawing her lecture from the anchor verse, John 10:10, stated that when we were created, the essence is for us not to suffer. She reminded students that challenges are inevitable but can be overcome with resilience, hard work, and faith. She ended with a quote from Nelson Mandela, “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”

The high point of the event was the administration of the Matriculation Oath on the students by the Registrar, Mr Daburi Bello Misal.
