The Ebonyi State government suspended two head teachers indefinitely after a viral video exposed pupils learning in poor classroom conditions, with the teachers accused of misconduct and sabotaging the state’s education efforts.

The Ebonyi State Ministry of Education has indefinitely suspended two head teachers over alleged misconduct, denial of quality education to pupils, and actions described as sabotage against the state government’s education efforts.
The suspension was announced after a viral video showed pupils learning in poor classroom conditions, including unfinished block walls, inadequate facilities, and weak infrastructure.
The suspension letters, dated May 18, 2026, were signed by the Education Secretary of Ezza-North Local Government Area, Francis Nwonunku. The affected head teachers were ordered to immediately hand over all government property in their possession to the next senior officer and submit their handover notes to the Education Secretary’s office.
According to the letter, the teachers were accused of gross misconduct and of undermining the education policies of Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru.
Reports also claimed that the suspended teachers were suspected of being responsible for the viral footage that exposed the poor learning environment in the schools.
The video generated widespread reactions online, with many people expressing concern over the condition of public school facilities and the welfare of schoolchildren in the area.
