Edo State University, Uzairue, has launched a mandatory one-year industrial training program for Chemical and Mechanical Engineering students to gain technical skills in converting fuel-powered vehicles to gas, aiming to reduce fuel costs, promote job creation, and support economic growth in alignment with the state’s environmental and poverty alleviation goals.

Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dawood Egbefo, during the program’s launch, explained that the initiative aims to reduce fuel costs, increase access to affordable transportation, create jobs, and foster economic growth.
He added that the program aligns with the vision of Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and would help lower carbon emissions and alleviate poverty.
In partnership with the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO), the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, and the Edo State Ministry of Mining and Energy, the initiative reflects the university’s commitment to innovation, social responsibility, and collaboration with government and industry partners.
Prof. Egbefo highlighted the university’s focus on excellence, stating that Edo State University remains a top destination for students due to its stability, with no strike interruptions and a proactive approach to addressing the needs of the academic community.
