EFCC Conducts Midnight Raid, Arrests FUTA Students

Cursory: EFCC operatives reportedly raided student accommodations at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, around 2 am, leading to claims of forced entry and student arrests. Videos circulating online depict broken window frames, suggesting attempted forced entry. Efforts to reach the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity for comment have been unsuccessful.

Individuals believed to be operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly conducted a late-night operation at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State.

It is alleged that student accommodations were raided around 2 am, with some students claiming on social media that the operatives forcibly entered rooms and arrested students.

Videos circulating online depict broken window frames, indicating attempted forced entry.

One social media user named J Brandy expressed dismay over the incident, questioning why the EFCC was conducting raids at night despite previous directives against it.

In their words:

“I thought they said EFCC should not raid at nights again. This hostel (Celebrity Lodge, FUTA ) is right behind mine. When will this endemic? EFCC (officials) moving like thieves at night!”

A person wearing an EFCC jacket was spotted in one of the circulating videos. The Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, had previously ordered a halt to nighttime sting operations following public outcry over the arrest of suspected internet fraudsters in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

When reached for comment, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, requested a callback in 20 minutes. However, he has not responded to further calls as of the time of this report.
