Janet Mensah, a double gold medalist at the FASU Games, praised Nigeria for its fantastic atmosphere and fan support, while other athletes like Zeinab Awuai and Morenikeji Sulaimon shared their satisfaction with their respective silver and bronze medals despite personal challenges.

Janet Mensah, a double gold medalist and student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, has hailed Nigeria as the best place to be during the ongoing All African University Games. Mensah, who claimed gold in both the women’s 100m and 200m races, shared with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that she was impressed with the atmosphere in Nigeria.
The 11th FASU Games, co-hosted by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Lagos State University (LASU) in Ojo, has been a highlight for Mensah, who expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support from Nigerian fans.
“The atmosphere here is fantastic, and I can confidently say Nigeria is the best place to be because of the amazing support,” she said. “The 200m gold is my first, but I’ve won other medals before. This one holds great significance to me, and I will cherish it. Team Ghana is doing well because we train hard and give our best.”
Mensah also revealed her aspirations for future international competitions, aiming to represent her country in events like the African Games or the Olympics.
Zeinab Awuai, a silver medalist in the women’s 200m from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, expressed satisfaction despite feeling her performance was below expectations. “I’m happy with the silver, though I was really tired, having participated in the 100m final earlier in the day and then running the 200m final in the afternoon,” she explained. “It wasn’t what I hoped for, but I’m grateful to have earned a medal.”
Morenikeji Sulaimon, the bronze medalist from the Federal University of Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), shared her thoughts on securing third place. “I feel good about the bronze. My 100m wasn’t great, but I gave my best in the 200m. This is not my first international competition, so I’m happy with the result.”
